About EC2008

"Es ist unser Traum, einmal eine Europameisterschaft hier in Söhnstetten auszurichten." - This sentence was written in a tournament review of WSCA's yearly Albuch Open in around 2000. Translated to English, it says "It's our dream to host the European Championships someday here at Söhnstetten". Well, here we go:

The European Championships 2008 in Disc Golf will be held from August 25th to August 31st. EC2008 is hosted by Wintersportsclub Albuch e.V.. The tournament has a capacity of 216 players in five divisions on two courses: Söhnstetten (WSCA homecourse) and Brenzpark in Heidenheim. While Söhnstetten is widely open and is challenging on it's own way due to large elevation changes, Heidenheim is completely flat and the players have to deal with water and tight fairways. You may remember 2006's Albuch Open as part of the PDGA Eurotour: 5 out of 120 players played their open final at the amazing state garden show in Heidenheim. That's right where the second course will be.

About Söhnstetten, Steinheim and Heidenheim

Welcome to Germany, welcome to the South, welcome to the State of Baden-Württemberg.

Steinheim is a village in the Albuch area not far away from Heidenheim. Today it consists of 9 communities. Steinheim is surrounded by forests and heathland, little knolls and valleys. The population of Steinheim has increased to the number of 8900, 1800 of them live in Söhnstetten.
The Steinheimer Becken is a worldwide known meteor crater. It measures some 3.5 km in diameter. As a matter of fact the impact of a meteor of the size of about 100 meters in diameter and the weight of about 900000 tons created the basin some 15 million years ago. Even today you can find fossilized bones. American astronauts of the Apollo 14 mission studied the structure of the crater as part of their preparational program for their moon landing.
Quite close to Steinheim is the community of Söhnstetten. It is embossed for a more and more likable residential area, the Church of St.Martin (1856) and of course: DiscGolf at WSCA. Many of DiscGolfers will remember the amazing final at the Landesgartenschau (a flower show with over one million visitors) at 11th Albuch Open last year. Both took place in Heidenheim. Heidenheim is situated at the edge of the Swabian Alb. It is a town of about 50,000 inhabitants. The next bigger cities are Stuttgart (100km) and Munich (200 km).
Heidenheim is known for its castle named Hellenstein and for its Opera Festival.
