About Wintersportsclub Albuch e.V.

EC2008 is hosted by WSCA - Wintersportsclub Albuch. It's Disc Golf division has developed very well in the past few years and collected much expierience in running Disc Golf tournaments.

The WSCA - Wintersportsclub Albuch - has been founded in 1974. In the beginning years, only wintersports like skiing were offered. During the time, five divisions were formed which are: wintersports, boules, volleyball, fit and fun and of course: Disc Golf. In total, WSCA lists 500 members in all divisions, where 70 are listed for Disc Golf.

While the divisions are independent from each other, the whole club is a strong company. Besides many small events during the year, the Wentallauf is the first annual event during the year. Around 300 runners from all over the surrounding areas meet to run one of three distances, including half marathon. The other annual event during the year is the Disc Golf tournament: Albuch Open. It's always a huge effort to run these two events in the year, but since all divisions help each other it always worked well in the past. The European Disc Golf Championship is a real challenge. We're ready!

Did you know? Yet the Club WSCA has got it's own Club beer! You'll love it's taste!

Disc Golf at WSCA

The Disc Golf division itself was founded in 1996. Playing on wooden poles first, the regular 15 hole tee was soon established. Söhnstetten has always had international character. In the first years already, players came from all surrounding countries to play in the beautiful valley.

Since 1996, Disc Golf in Söhnstetten developed very well. Some of you may remember the first tournaments: familiar and with the traditional barbecue party (and yes, even in 2008 we'll keep our tradition). During the years, WSCA Disc Golf managed to tighten it's standard in tournament play and organisation. At latest with the 9th Albuch Open - which was the so called 99 cent tournament with 99 cent player fee - we became even more famous. Recently, we celebrated our 10th birthday in Disc Golf division two years ago.

In early 2004, a small 6 hole approach & putt course was established a few kilometers away. Some of our visitors may remember the Sunday's Special at 11th Albuch Open there. Unfortunately, this course is not availably for play during EC08.

Team WSCA

WSCA is the most successful Disc Golf Club in Germany. We've got many German Champion titles in Women and Masters. In 2006, Michael Stelzer took the German Champion to Söhnstetten. In 2007 he finished second in the German Champs and sixth in the Euro Champ in Belgium. WSCA members also won tournaments abroad: Like Dennis Stampfer at the Whitecombe Classics in Beaminster, the former host of EC 2003. We're holding the thumbs to our players for the Euros 2008.
The club is also proud of it's youth. Many young players joined the sport of Disc Golf in the last years and are active tournament players. You'll meet some of them at EC.

The highlight so far

The highlight in our history till now has been the 11th Albuch Open as German Championships and as part of the new PDGA Eurotour. Within the very first days of online registration, the field was more than full. It offered 126 spots and had it's highlight on sunday at the State Garden Show in close Heidenheim with more than 800 spectators following the open finals.
With several wins in the past including tournaments abroad we got the highest title in Germany: Michael Stelzer has won the German Championships in 2006 in open division.
At latest with this three day tournament in a huge tent in 2006, we showed that we are able to run a huge event smoothly. With a experienced staff, knowhow, infrastructure, connections, modern technic and a strong club in the background, we look forward for our dream to come true: hosting the European Disc Golf Championships in 2008. We're ready!
